A high chance of rain didn't stop Intiman's "Homecoming: Performing Arts Festival'' celebration on Capitol Hill last weekend. In fact, development and communications director Wesley Frug called the weather "a wonderful way" to welcome the Intiman Theatre into its new space at the Erickson Theatre on Harvard Avenue.
"Intiman did not have a home theater for the past 5 years," said Frug, explaining the move. "Our offices were at Seattle Center but we produced all around town in different locations for every show."
As part of the celebration, the block of Harvard Avenue that will now be a permanent home to Intiman hosted multiple vendors including Vermillion Art Gallery, Badder Body, and Mediums Collective.
Both days of the festival began with a children's show presented by South End Stories followed by dance performances with Baile Dior Studios. The weekend's lineup included spoken word poetry, stand-up comedy, and drag shows to end the night.
On the night of Saturday, Sept. 18, Intiman partner BECU hosted an awards ceremony "Angels in Seattle: Arts Advocate Awards" and checks were awarded to five recipients for pursuing and supporting the arts through the pandemic. On Sunday, Sept. 19, founder and artistic director Dani Tirrell debuted their new piece "3" with dancers Nia-Amina Minor, Marco Farrow, and David Rue. Sunday performances also included The Filthy FemCorps which brought a high energy crowd.
