"Overton Berry began his musical career over fifty years ago at the age of 16 when he played USO shows at military bases on the west coast with the first Overton Berry Trio. Since those early beginnings the music has never stopped. He is described in the Pacific Northwest as "a living legend", and his wealth of experience and generations of fans bear witness to this affectionate accolade." "The next Black Health & Wellness Meetup will feature a screening of the new documentary Digging For Weldon Irvine with reflections and panel discussion with Brooklyn based award-winning filmmaker Victorious De Costa joined by Seattle's own Vitamin D, Nichelle Alderson, Owuour Arunga and Mafi D.
"'Digging For Weldon Irvine' is about the life of accomplished musician and activist who despite significant success and prominence in his field which included serving as the bandleader for jazz singer Nina Simone and mentoring to many New York hip-hop artists including Q-Tip, Common and Mos Def, he would ultimately take his own life.

"The True Cost reveals the high price of the low-cost 'fast' fashion industry, from toxic production to rapid waste, from low-wage workers to carcinogenic pollution, pesticides, and death. Showing more environmentally just and wiser options, the film includes people organizing for fair trade and sustainable clothing production. After the film, speakers from Seattle Zero Waste and other groups will answer questions, lead discussion, and give options for action."

"Join us on January 30th as we welcome three local poets to share some of their latest work.
"KELLIE RICHARDSON is a writer, artist and educator born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. Her work explores the intersection of race, class, and gender. Kellie has authored two books, The Art of Naming My Pain (2019), a collection of poetry, prose and collage; and her debut poetry collection, What Us Is (2017). She also served as Tacoma Poet Laureate from 2017-2019. Kellie is particularly inspired and called to explore the experiences of women of color, and the intersectionality of identities.
"NICOLE MCCARTHY earned her MFA from the University of Washington Bothell. Her work has appeared in The Offing, Redivider, Glass: a Journal of Poetry, The Shallow Ends, Ghost Proposal, Moonchild Magazine, Memoir Mixtapes, Civil Coping Mechanism's A Shadow Map anthology, the 2018 Best American Experimental Writing anthology and others. Her work has also been performed and encountered as projection installation pieces throughout Tacoma and Seattle and her written work can be found at nicolemccarthypoet.com. She is a 2018 Artist Trust GAP award recipient."
