On December 5th, from 5-8 pm, the public is invited out for a Rainier Beach Square open house to celebrate the season of peace, love, and understanding. During this time, businesses (some paired up with local artists and community groups) on Rainier Ave S from 51st up into Old Town on 57th are rising to the challenge to Light Up the Beach and compete for Best Global Theme, Best Promotion of Peace, and Best Over-All Display — as well as a prize for Best Hospitality — all voted on by the community and the Rainier Beach Merchants Association.

Community members are invited to start their evening atSafeway Rainier Beachfor a FREE holiday photo, or atJude'sfor a peek at Beau & Courtney Hebert's brand new joint and live music, and to pick up a passport voting card for all participating businesses. Passports turned in with "stamps" from at least 4 businesses will be entered to win one of a variety of gift cards.

This event is sponsored by the Rainier Beach Merchants Association, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Safeway Rainier Beach, and Seattle Office of Economic Development's Only In Seattle initiative.
