King County Seeks Community Members for Various Boards and Commissions

King County has a number of opportunities for community members who may be interested in joining boards and commissions, centered around a number of topics.

King County Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) Interim Advisory Board
Due Date: March 31, 2025, by 11:45 p.m.

King County's Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) offers funding for capacity-building, as well as capital funds for community-driven and community-owned development projects that address residential and cultural displacement throughout King County. The initiative prioritizes groups that are adversely impacted by structural racism and discrimination, communities with higher disparities in economic or health outcomes, or those who are facing higher risks of displacement.

It is seeking 11 interim board members to serve one-to-three-year terms on its new Interim Advisory Board, which will help provide guidance for EDI's priorities, framework, and values. The board will eventually transition into a permanent board.

Applications must be submitted via King County's online portal by March 31, 2025, at 11:45 p.m.

Deadly Incident Review and Recommendation Panel
Due Date: March 31, 2025

Following King County's new inquest program, the Deadly Incident Review and Recommendation Panel will review and make recommendations related to deaths involving interactions with law enforcement in King County. The Panel will determine whether law enforcement complied with best practices for the particular situation, as well as recommend appropriate changes to existing laws, whenever necessary.

More details can be found on the application form, which must be submitted to tmahmoud@kingcounty.gov by March 31. Prospective members may be asked to participate in an interview process.

King County Metro Mobility Equity Cabinet
Due Date: April 20, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

King County Metro is seeking members to join its Mobility Equity Cabinet for a three-year term from 2025 to 2028, during which they will be tasked with helping to shape Metro's transit policies, plans, and programs. Youth; those who live, work, and regularly visit King County; and those who often use King County Metro services are encouraged to apply. Members are compensated $50 per hour for time participating in various cabinet activities.

King County Public Health Offers One-on-One Help With Mobile Food Business Permits

King County Public Health will be hosting individualized help sessions to offer assistance for those who might be interested in applying for mobile food business permits. Such permits are useful for food trucks, trailers, carts, and pop-ups, such as tables and booths.

Learn how to get started and how to submit your plans for review, plus understand permit fees and how to serve food safely to the public. Spanish language services are available, and support for other languages can be arranged as necessary.

The one-day event takes place on March 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at El Centro de la Raza (2524 16th Ave. S.) in Beacon Hill. Drop in at your convenience. Similar future events are expected. All questions can be directed to 206-263-9566 or foodsafetystakeholders@kingcounty.gov.

King County is also now accepting applications for community-based organizations that are interested in grant funding to help serve as community liaisons to street food vendors who do not yet have permits. The organizations would be tasked with supporting unpermitted vendors that are navigating the process of obtaining a legal permit.

Billy Frank Junior Annual Celebration

The Nisqually Indian Tribe is honoring the legacy of Billy Frank Jr. with a free all-ages event at Timberline High School. The event will teach about the life and legacy of the Native American environmental leader and advocate of treaty rights, with presentations and activities for all ages. Nurturing Roots' headquarters is hosting a warehouse sale, where items such as kitchenware, furniture, office supplies, and more will be available for a suggested donation. Interim CDA Community Workday
April 5, 2025, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Interim CDA and Danny Woo Gardens in the Chinatown-International District will be hosting a community workday on April 5.Community members are invited to help with mulching pathways, weeding, removing invasive species, and just generally supporting the community. Shaping Green Solutions Together: Listening Session, Pt. 2
April 5, 2025, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

ECOSS, an environmental organization that promotes sustainable solutions through equitable community engagement and partnerships, bridging knowledge and cultural gaps, invites participants to join a community conversation and listening session around Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI). GSI includes nature-based solutions that help reduce flooding, improve water quality, and create vibrant green spaces. African community members are encouraged to join, and language interpretation is available. A $50 stipend is offered for participants who are 18 years or older, and child care services are available for those under 16 years old. Duwamish Alive! Earth Day Celebration
April 19, 2025, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The River Access Paddle Program, which connects communities to the Duwamish River & Salish Sea through accessibility and water safety education, will be hosting an Earth Day Celebration clean-up event. It will feature two kayak cleanups and a walking cleanup to help support the Duwamish River ecosystem. More information can be found at riveraccesspaddleprogram.org.
