PHOTOS: Seattle Mourns Eleven Killed in Pittsburgh Shooting at Tree of Life

More than a thousand people crowded into Temple De Hirsch Sinai while at least as many filled the street outside the synagogue during a vigil for the 11 people killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 27.

The theme of the night was "Stronger Than Hate." Speakers included Temple De Hirsch Sinai Rabbi Daniel Weiner, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkin, and several clergy, including Rabbi Jill Borodin of Congregation Beth Shalom, Rabbi Samuel Klein of the Jewish Federation, Rabbi Ben Hassan of Sephardic Bikur Holim, Rabbi Will Berkovitz of Jewish Family Services, Rev. Michael Ryan from St. James Cathedral, and the Rev. Kelle Brown from Plymouth Church. The clery echoed the message that love always conquers hate.

The shooting at Tree of Life is believed the deadliest U.S. attack on Jewish people. The gunman expressed anti-Semitic views and killed 11 people. These are their names: Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, Irving Younger.
