The 32nd Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, and there are plenty of volunteer events, marches, and memorials to honor the civil rights leader happening around Puget Sound.

King has a special place in local history. In 1986, King County was renamed after him. He made one famous visit to Seattle in 1961, speaking at the University of Washington and Temple De Hirsch Sinai on Capitol Hill.

The centerpiece of MLK Day events happens in Seattle at Garfield High School. The celebration kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with an opportunity fair and workshops. A rally begins in the Garfield gym at 11 a.m. followed by a march to Westlake beginning at noon.
