Florangela Davila

Florangela Davila is the executive director and executive editor of the South Seattle Emerald, joining the nonprofit in February 2025. She has worked as a journalist and newsroom leader in Seattle media for more than two decades. Her reporting as the race and immigration reporter at The Seattle Times earned local and national awards. At Crosscut, now part of Cascade PBS, Florangela helped build the newsroom following its merger with KCTS 9. As managing editor, she launched equity and arts reporting initiatives and anchored TV news shorts. She later served as news director at KNKX Public Radio, where she led the newsroom to dozens of accolades, including the 2024 national Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence. A graduate of UC Berkeley and the Columbia University School of Journalism, Florangela was a 2019 Corporation for Public Broadcasting Editorial Integrity and Leadership Initiative fellow and a 2026 graduate of the Nonprofit News Business Certificate program at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Florangela is the daughter of immigrants from Colombia and Peru. She lives in Rainier Beach with her husband, fellow journalist Glenn Nelson.
